Water street (formally called Field Street.
These lovely cottages are under threat similarly to Smedley Row cottages because they are built without foundations and rely on the meadow mill pond water level to keep them safe. unfortunately Firth Rixon wants to drain and build houses on the site.
The hedge in the photo above was almost totally destroyed by the builders of the so called Highstone Houses, however local Councillor Jacqie Wilkinson stood in front of the bulldozer and stopped the destruction.
The photo on the left is a young Jacqie in 1966 before she became a hard labour councillor.
